Song Recording Story!

Last month I had a special treat recording some of my songs in the lovely former chapel that is WWW Studios ( https://www.weeksweeksweeks.com/). Highly recommended! An innovative space for musicians, all within a community centre, generously serving the local people. The height of the main studio room on hot summer days meant it was a comfy temperature in there! There’s also a garden, and nearby a far-too-tempting bakery for lunchtime goodies 😊

I still feel like I am on an amazing learning journey. This recording process is new to me, and it’s great to be able to share about it. Writing songs often has had a spontaneous start for me- a tune comes and a few words and I press the record button on a gadget at home and play and sing. At some point I probably do a few more takes and on a different day sit down to have a listen. And I will likely develop some of these ideas further when I have a few days at a time to do so ! Maybe you’ve had a go at this too?!

Recording one instrument at a time at WWW Studios was a whole new creative experience for me. Driving to the studio through rural landscape gave me time to think and prepare, and on days when I took either the saxophone or flute players we agreed to keep quiet on the way there to save our energy. We already had a pre-prod set of tracks, and before each new recording talked through our variations and options with Matt, our producer. It was fun – but I was surprised at how absorbing this sort of recording is; although my hands weren’t tired after hours of recording piano and keys, my brain was!!

I’ve really loved the team aspect of this project so far. Really exciting to see song tracks taking shape. The first day of recording was with an amazing drummer, had my eyes opened about the level of detail possible… and then other days with piano, keys, vocals, wind instruments and the fab fun that is creating BVs (backing vocals)!! Guitar and bass still to come, but so much beautiful creativity, and Matt our producer so very adept at everything. So professional and very kind too.

It’s a year since most of these songs were written, can’t wait to share them with you!
